When politicians decide to retire, it’s often a good indicator for the political environment for the upcoming elections.
Ahead of the 2022 midterms, 31 Democrats decided to not seek re-election as compared to 18 Republicans. Those Democrats apparently saw the political tide turning against them and Republicans did indeed flip the House — albeit by a much smaller margin than many had predicted.
